For a list with links to unofficial sites click here.

Official Sites (Government etc.)

http://english.www.gov.tw

Called ‘The e-Government Entry Point in Taiwan’. I have no idea what ‘e-Government’ is supposed to mean. One of the better looking government sites. Bearably slow.

iff.immigration.gov.tw

For the English version, click on
. (That’s Chinese for
‘Switch to English’.)

About legal issues relevant for foreigners in Taiwan, from visa info to laws concerned with pet keeping.

If there is a problem with the English translation, it’s your problem. The site makes it clear that “In case of divergence of translation, the text in our Chinese web pages shall prevail.” So, if you want to be sure, just check the corresponding Chinese page. Better hire an agent to do your legal stuff. They should know. If something goes wrong, he/she usually has the same policy, but at least you didn’t stand in line yourself.

http://www.gio.gov.tw/

Site of the Taiwan Government Information Office (GIO). Cluttered and messy as if the government had no competition. News that you may not always find relevant. Everything that the government wants foreigners to know, much of it potentially useful. Statistical data.

Taiwan Yearbook
Very nice site with lots of facts and pictures about Taiwan.

http://www.npm.gov.tw

Breathtakingly slow website of the National Palace Museum. So slow it must be government operated. Once it loads it looks very nice.

www.taiwan.net.tw

Web site of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau. Links to sites in English, German, Japanese and a few other languages.

http://www.taiwanheadlines.gov.tw

Links to articles of international media about Taiwan.
